Robot Mower Error Codes: What They Mean and How to Fix Them

A robot mower error code needs three pieces of context: the exact message, the mower model, and the navigation system installed. Start there before replacing a part. Even an identical code can send you down a different troubleshooting path on another product family.

Reviewed September 28, 2026. This guide compares manufacturer documentation and provides a fault-recording method. We have not reproduced these faults in hands-on tests.

The same code can mean a different investigation

Worx provides a useful example. On Landroid Classic, E1 can mean that the mower cannot detect its boundary wire or is outside the working area. On Landroid Vision, E1 leads to checks of the visible lawn boundary, terrain, lighting and magnetic-strip installation where used. A wire-break procedure from a Classic article is therefore the wrong starting point for Vision.

Photograph the product label and the full message. Keep any extra number, left/right designation or wording after the main code. Identify whether the installation uses a boundary wire, cameras, satellite positioning, or a combination; the marketing name alone may not tell you which configuration is installed.

A quick lookup for Worx Landroid Vision

The following examples come from Worx’s Vision error directory. They identify the relevant topic, not a failed component. They are not a code chart for Landroid Classic or other brands.

Code Topic to investigate Useful detail to record
E1 Leaving or failing to recognize the mowing area Starting position, edge appearance and lighting
E2 Wheel-drive error Any visible obstruction and which wheel is affected
E3 Cutting-motor fault Message and debris visible after safe shutdown
E4 Becoming trapped The location and surrounding obstacles
E7 A charging error Whether it reached and seated in the base
E8 Failure to locate the base Where the return journey stopped
E11 Battery temperature outside the allowed range Conditions and the full app message
E12 Camera visibility obstructed Lens condition before the prescribed cleaning

Choose the next check from what stopped

  • A wire or loop message: record the charging-station indicator as well as the mower message, then follow the boundary-signal diagnostic. A signal error alone does not establish where a wire is damaged.
  • A trapped, slipping or wheel warning: photograph the ground and obstacles before moving the mower. The stuck-mower guide separates location problems from a fault that recurs on clear ground.
  • A return or charging warning: distinguish a mower that never reaches the station from one that reaches it but cannot dock, and from one that docks but will not charge. Use the three-stage return check.
  • A positioning or camera message: use the exact product’s support branch. Photograph the nearby trees, buildings, boundary or lens condition as relevant. Do not substitute a boundary-wire repair for a positioning fault.

Before lifting the mower or inspecting wheels and the underside, stop it and use the shutdown procedure in its manual; wait for moving parts to stop. Do not hold a lift sensor down or repeatedly restart a mower while someone is inspecting it.

Read the history before clearing the message

A phone notification may omit useful context. Husqvarna explains how to access the Automower message history and notes that some recorded messages do not trigger notifications. For many models, viewing the app log requires a Bluetooth connection. Review the sequence: for example, a return problem followed by an empty-battery message is more informative than the final message alone.

Our suggested record has one row per event: date and time; full message; location; activity immediately beforehand; weather/ground condition; change made; and result. Record the initial state before a restart, then follow the reset procedure for that model after addressing the stated cause.

When the message needs support

A recurring warning after the documented owner checks is a reason to ask for diagnosis, not proof that a sensor or control board has failed. Send support the model and serial number privately, the message history, photographs and the checks already completed. Ask which further checks are owner-serviceable before opening a sealed housing or ordering electronics.

For example, Husqvarna’s wheel-motor-blocked guidance directs owners to switch off and clear the wheels, then contact a dealer if the fault persists. That is a defined stopping point; a warning name does not by itself justify buying a motor.

Update — September 28, 2026: Replaced generic error interpretation with product-family examples and a fault-recording method.
