SmartYardLab ("we", "us") operates smartyardlab.com. This page explains what we
collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be
skimmed past.

The short version

We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not sell personal information. We
use analytics to see which articles help people, and we show advertising to pay for
the site. Both of those involve cookies and similar technologies set by third
parties.

What we collect

Automatically, when you visit: your IP address, browser and device type,
operating system, referring page, the pages you view and how long you stay, and
approximate location derived from your IP (city or region level, not an address).

When you contact us: your email address and whatever you choose to put in your
message. We keep correspondence only as long as needed to handle it and to spot
repeat issues.

We do not collect: payment details (we sell nothing directly), and we do not
knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Third parties that set cookies

Google Analytics 4 โ€” measures traffic and which content is useful. Google’s
practices are described in
How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Google AdSense and its advertising partners โ€” serve the ads that fund this site.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior
visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and
its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites
on the Internet.

Google Search Console โ€” reports how our pages perform in search. It does not set
cookies on your visit.

Your choices

  • Opt out of personalised advertising by Google at
    Google Ads Settings.
  • Opt out of third-party vendor cookies more broadly at
    www.aboutads.info or
    youradchoices.ca in Canada.
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser. The site will still work; some
measurement and ad personalisation will not.
  • Opt out of Google Analytics with the
    browser add-on.

Your rights

If you are in Canada: under PIPEDA you may request access to the personal
information we hold about you and ask for corrections.

If you are in California: under the CCPA/CPRA you may request to know what
personal information is collected, request deletion, and opt out of "sale" or
"sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do
not sell personal information for money; advertising cookies may nonetheless qualify
as "sharing" under that law, and the opt-out links above are how you exercise that
choice.

If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland: where required, a consent banner
will ask for your choices before non-essential cookies are set, and you may withdraw
consent at any time through that banner.

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We may need to ask
for enough information to confirm the request is genuinely yours.

Data retention and transfers

Analytics data is retained according to Google’s configured retention period.
Correspondence is kept while it is useful and then deleted. Our servers and service
providers are located outside your country of residence; by using the site you
understand that your information may be processed in other jurisdictions.

Changes

We will update the date at the top when this page changes. Material changes will be
noted on the page itself.
